As the crisis in Ukraine continues to unfold with alarming consequences, many are eager to find ways to help alleviate the suffering brought on by Russia's invasion and the trauma visited upon Ukraine's people.
Here is an updated, but no means exhaustive, list of organizations providing aid. Please do your own vetting of these organizations before contributing! One useful source to find out more about charitable organizations is www.charitynavigator.org.
HIAS
HIAS is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and neighboring countries and is responding with emergency humanitarian assistance to those who are displaced.
There is much concern for the safety of the 162 staff of HIAS' long-time partner on the ground in Ukraine, Right to Protection (R2P), who have aided refugees and displaced persons since 2013. HIAS has rushed emergency funding to R2P to assist their response.
R2P is an independent NGO based in Kyiv with offices across Ukraine, including in government-controlled areas of Donbas, East Ukraine. R2P specialists work in 10 cities providing legal assistance, monitoring and advocating for internally displaced people (IDPs); refugees; asylum seekers; and stateless persons. R2P is working to meet emergency needs of their current and new beneficiaries, working in close cooperation with the humanitarian community in Ukraine, HIAS HQ, and HIAS Europe.
AMERICAN JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE (JDC)
As conflict erupts across the country, Ukraine’s most vulnerable Jews are in distress and JDC has launched an emergency campaign to meet their spiking humanitarian needs.
In more than 1,000 locations across Ukraine, JDC provides a lifeline for an estimated 40,000 Jewish elderly and 2,500 poor Jewish children and their families through its network of care services, Jewish community programs, and Jewish leaders — and today, they need our help.

INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE
1 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the start of the Feb. 24 Russian invasion
- One million refugees from Ukraine have now sought safety in neighboring countries as Russia’s military offensive intensifies in major Ukrainian cities.
- Civilians and their homes, as well as hospitals, bridges and other infrastructure, are being targeted in unacceptable breaches of international humanitarian law.
- As the attacks continue, thousands of people in Ukraine are left without adequate power, water, or access to local markets to buy food and other basic necessities.
- The IRC calls on the Russian government to immediately cease all violations of the laws of war to spare additional harm to civilians and avoid further displacement.
- We're also extremely concerned about reports of discriminatory treatment: All people fleeing Ukraine must be able to leave safely, regardless of nationality, ethnicity or religion.

PROJECT HOPE
Since 1958, we have confronted the world’s greatest health challenges and daunting emergencies. We have responded to hurricanes and earthquakes and the humanitarian consequences of civil war. We were on the frontlines of an Ebola outbreak in Africa and rebuilt creaking public health networks in the Soviet bloc during the Cold War and after the Iron Curtain fell. When deadly tsunamis hit Japan and Southeast Asia, Project HOPE was quick to deploy and stayed for months.
We have built health systems from the ground up and repaired others in the developing world, building a legacy of functioning health infrastructure that will endure for generations. Two million trained health care workers around the world and many hospitals, from Asia to Africa and Central America to Eastern Europe, bear witness to HOPE’s legacy of care.
Project HOPE is on the ground responding to the Ukraine crisis and is actively shipping essential medicines and medical supplies to assist Ukrainians. Learn more about this crisis and how you can help.

VOICES OF CHILDREN
The Voices of Children Foundation has been helping children affected by the war since 2015. Thanks to you, we provide psychological and psychosocial support to children. It helps them overcome the consequences of armed conflict and develop. Today, during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, we are providing non-stop assistance to affected children and families from all over the country, providing emergency psychological assistance, and assisting in the evacuation process.

WORLD UNION FOR PROGRESSIVE JUDAISM
We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, and are in close contact with our people on the ground, including Rabbi Alexander Dukhovny in Kiev, Rabbi Julia Gris from Odessa and Alexander Haydar, Executive Director of our Progressive communities.
First and foremost, we are working to ensure the safety of our people, assisting with food, warmth, shelter, security, medical attention, and mental health support while establishing a Jewish refugee centre in Poland to welcome families fleeing Ukraine.
We are working in coordination with important global organizations such as the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the American Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and the World Zionist Organization (WZO) to ensure successful streamlining and to avoid duplication. We are thankful for our partners in the European Union for Progressive Judaism (EUPJ) for ensuring co-ordination and co-operation.
