Another in FJC's series of JBC author talks, and one not to be missed.

Writer Sasha Sagan, inspired by her viral essay “Lessons of Immortality and Mortality From My Father Carl Sagan,” offers us a book that celebrates the marvels of life on Earth that require no faith in order to be believed. When Sasha became a mother, she reconnected not only with the wisdom of her parents, but also with the powerful messages that she saw at the heart of religious observances. Drawing on both Jewish and Christian backgrounds, she and her husband became determined to create new secular rituals that would instill both joy and wonder in their daughter. Sasha shares those rituals to inspire others to create their own. Kirkus Reviews offers this assessment of Ms. Sagan’s book. “[For Small Creatures Such As We] offers ethereal wisdom and worldly guidance . . . Sagan’s debut, a lushly written amalgam of memoir and manual, traces her life as the daughter of Carl and writer/producer Ann Druyan and how she came to appreciate the wonder in the everyday. . . Profound, elegantly written ruminations on the exquisite splendors of life enjoyed through a secular lens.”

Ms. Sagan holds a degree in Dramatic Literature from NYU. She has worked as a television producer, filmmaker, editor, and speaker in New York, Boston and London, and her writing has appeared in New York Magazine, O. the Oprah MagazineLiterary Hub, Mashable.comThe Violet Book, and elsewhere. For Small Creatures Such as We is her first book.  “A charming book, ringing with the joy of existence.” — Richard Dawkins

“This lyrical exploration of how we can find beauty in the natural world comes from the daughter of Carl Sagan . . . A wonderful gift for your favorite reader.” —Good Housekeeping

The perfect gift for a loved one or for yourself, For Small Creatures Such as We is part memoir, part guidebook, and part social history, a luminous celebration of Earth’s marvels that require no faith in order to be believed.
